Back To Mine With XIRA

XIRA – the artist project of London-based vocalist and topliner, Tamika Stanton –  is rapidly becoming one of the most prominent voices in dance music. Her single with Nicky Romero and Sick Individuals, ‘Only For You’, earned support from Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix, AFROJACK, W&W, Steve Aoki, and more, and her collaboration with Audien, ‘One Last Dance’, has amassed over 27 million streams in just over 18 months. She is best known for her vulnerable and emotional feature vocals in the progressive house space and collaborated with several prominent DJs and producers in 2023 (including 3lau, Audien, Flight School, Sublab, Scorz, and Avira). As her new collaboration with Ridney & Husky ‘You Ain’t Breakin’ My Heart’, drops on Fool’s Paradise, DMCWorld goes Back to Mine with XIRA.

Sonny Fodera, MK, and Clementine Douglas – Asking

Asking is one of those songs that feels instantly nostalgic. It’s a stunning mix of 90s-RnB-infused vocal melodies and a groove that makes me want to throw myself around the kitchen – hair flying everywhere – pretending I could dance professionally if I wanted to. I’m also absolutely obsessed with Clementine Douglas’ voice and songwriting as evidenced by her being featured in this playlist twice.

Disclosure, RAYE – Waterfall

Waterfall has been a favourite of mine since it was released. RAYE can do no wrong in my eyes and her teaming up with Disclosure was always going to be incredible. The lyricism is so effortlessly brilliant; simple and catchy on the surface but by no means vapid or meaningless. It’s been a reference in so many of my songwriting sessions over the last few years (for so many reasons).

Cosmo’s Midnight – C.U.D.I (Can U Dig It)

Cosmo and Pat (who make up Cosmo’s Midnight) are the COOLEST twin brothers you’ll ever meet. They’re so beautifully humble and ridiculously talented (obviously). This song has a special place in my heart because one of my very best friends in the world, Timi Temple, plays guitar for them, so it always makes me smile when I hear it. To be honest, though, I think it’s just one of those songs that would make anybody smile. Such a vibe.

Young Franco ft Pell – Juice

I wish I was as cool as Young Franco and Pell. I dare you to stay still while this song is playing. Impossible.

Janet Jackson – All For You

There’s always gotta be one guilty pleasure throwback at the afters. This one is my current favourite. Can you tell I’m deep into my 90s RnB at the moment? I’m currently taking a lot of inspiration from these timeless melodies and the simplicity of the lyrics in the studio, too.

Dom Dolla – Saving Up

Dom Dolla is having his MOMENT and I love it. It’s so cool seeing Australians killing it all over the world. Clementine’s vocals are so powerful and soulful on this one. This one honestly makes me want to strut wherever I am (which can be slightly awkward walking the streets of London – if you see me, no you didn’t).

D.O.D – So Much In Love

This song was my song of the summer last year. I’d just moved to London and I was so energized and excited to be here. There were A LOT of festivals last Summer and this brings back some really fun memories. The perfect song for when the afters is peaking and the kitchen has turned into a dancefloor.

Charli XCX feat Rina – Beg For You – Sawayama

– Charli XCX is a genius. You might be getting the vibe that I’m a bit of a songwriting nerd… so most of my favorite songs are my favourite songs because of the *chef’s kiss* pop writing. I’ve chosen this one because I think it’s the perfect mix of chill, garage influence, and pop vocals from two of the best.

Sammy Virji   – If U Need It

Sammy is having a meteoric rise at the moment; and for good reason. Everything Sammy touches is pure gold. I’m also a big fan of his remix of “on & on” by Tommy and Piri. Side note: Sammy and I had dinner at a VIKING THEMED (!!!) restaurant in Sydney with a bunch of friends on his last tour and the photos are everything.

Audien, XIRA – One Last Dance

Look, I’m not one to usually play my own songs, BUT after a night out this one might make an appearance. It’s one of my favourite songs I have ever written and it never fails to get me in my feelings about how lucky I am to write and record songs with my best friends, for a living.
