Back To Mine With Yulo X

Yulo X, the latest project by Berlin-based producer Felix Neumann, offers a mesmerising blend of electronica infused with melodic and ambient elements, occasionally venturing into house, techno, garage, and dubstep. Yulo X’s soundscape marries the lush melodies of Max Cooper with Caribou’s vibrant energy and Floating Points’ enigmatic grooves yet distils these influences into a raw, minimalist form that reveals stark, unadulterated emotion. Drawing inspiration from the dynamic music scenes of Berlin and London, Neumann’s forthcoming debut album, ‘Euphoria Ends ‘showcases a unique style featuring catchy piano passages and orchestral elements, marking a significant evolution in his songwriting and production. As he releases a teaser from the album, ‘AMOR’, DMCWorld goes Back To Mine with Yulo X.

The Notwist – Day 7

The Notwist are one of my all-time favourites from the German indie scene in Weilheim during the late 90s and early 2000s. “Day 7 “is from their 1998 album “The Shrink “and blends electronic elements with jazzy vibes and indie rock sensibilities. It was already brilliant and a big preview of their ability to merge genres seamlessly and transcend time and musical trends.

Grandbrothers – Bloodflow

Grandbrothers’ innovative approach to combining piano with electronic processing creates a mesmerising and emotionally charged soundscape. I saw them live last year in Berlin and was really fascinated.

Jeff Buckley – Everybody Here Wants You

This one was released posthumously and is his best song, in my opinion. The timeless quality lies in its raw emotion and Buckley’s exceptional vocal performance, which captivates listeners across generations.

Caribou – Can’t Do Without You

For me, it’s still an instant earworm. Its blend of electronic production with pop sensibilities gives it a broad appeal that could stand the test of time. Daniel is such a talented producer; he deserves to be even more successful.

Communes – Running Up That Hill

This stripped-down and understated interpretation of Kate Bush’s iconic song totally got me recently. I was listening to it on repeat. And these guys seem super sympathetic and down to earth.

My Bloody Valentine – No More Sorry

This takes me back to my musical socialisation and early twenties when I had a big crush on all shoegaze and dream pop bands. The song features the characteristic and lush MBV wall of sound, but here, it’s used more as a background layer to a super melodic and melancholic pop song. One of my all-time favourites.

Richard Ashcroft – Check The Meaning

As a big fan of The Verve, I also followed Ashcroft’s solo career, and for me, this is one of his best songs. The track’s quality lies in its timeless production and Ashcroft’s distinctive voice.

Hemlock Ernst – Down

Samuel T. Herring is mostly known for his famous band Future Islands, but this is his exceptional hip-hop moniker. No one could ever think he was doing anything else than these super complex double-dutch rap performances. “Down” is so smooth and still subtly drives through its percussive groove.

Sade – Hang On To Your Love

Sade’s gentle voice blows me away every time. The song is simply an absolute classic that you just have to sing along to. The lyrics are something many could take to heart in the fast-paced world we live in – it’s about not giving up on love immediately when things get tough.

D’Angelo – Untitled (How Does It Feel)

It is one of the greatest and sexiest Neo-Soul songs of all time – absolutely style-defining and a big tribute to Prince. It could be the perfect last song to close a private after-hour.
