Marco V

The big room DJ making us Scream

Welcome back to DMC towers Marco. A new collaboration you are currently working on with Marcel Woods called ‘Scream’ – talk us through this project…

“Marcel and I are buddies and we hook up from time to time. We have out specific tastes in music and our cooperation always augments the level of what we put out there I feel. Scream is a joint project we both worked on in both our studio’s. I am chuffed with the outcome and just wait and keep an eye out there is going to be some fireworks around this release. I am first about to release ‘Analogital’, my new track on TAO Recordings, the release date is set for February 7th.”

The last time we spoke you told me that you love the fact that the whole electronic sound has gotten more professional…”people are more dependable, more serious and thus the events have gotten better, bigger and more fun too.” Since then the Swedes have sold out Madison Square Garden, Avicci has donated $1m to the US Homeless Charity, Deadmau5 put on a show closing down the whole of The River Thames, Underworld have been asked to do part of the music for the Olympics in 2012 and Simon Cowell has announced he is doing an X-Factor television show for DJs. Things it seem are getting more surreal by the day. Are your feelings the same 4 months after our last interview about how the scene?

“Yes I pretty much feel the same. EDM is taking over and will end up the mainstream music, even in the States in my opinion. The fact that Simon Cowell is doing a DJ talent show I don’t have a very positive lookout on though (all due respect of course). But for the rest I see more and more possibilities when it comes to our scene.”

You have just done a remix for James Blunt’s ‘Superstar’ track – what’s the story there?

“Well I was asked by Atlantic/Big Beat to do this and was very happy to do so. I am a big fan of what Deniz Koyu and Johan Wedel did to James’ ‘Dangerous’ track, – I’m a big fan of James too for that matter. So I was very pleased to have a go at this track myself…I am very happy with the outcome and think we managed to create another weekend weapon!”

Where were you on New Years Eve – how was it?

“I played in Kuala Lumpur with Pete Tong, Matt Zo and DMC legend Cash Money – who is one of my all time favorite DJ’s believe it or not! So it was AWESOME to be on the line up with these guys! It was a great party, I have played a few times in Asia before during NYE and the atmosphere is always amazing over there. The crowd gives so much energy all night long, I just never feel like stopping and always am sad to come off the decks!!”

You used to have a love of hip hop and started DJing at the age of 14. What made you want to become a DJ in the first place?

“Music has always been my passion so the step to becoming a DJ was a small one. I loved the idea of making people dance to the music that I love.”

What did your parents think of this quite radical choice of career back then?

“My parents have always been very supportive of my career choices, but I started out as a painter and a maintenance man, DJing at local clubs and basically holding down two jobs. Once i started producing, playing music and releasing records gradually took over my day job.”

Can you remember the first club you played and did you get paid?

“Phhew that is a tough one. I was mainly just playing in local bars but the first steady paid gig I had was a residency in De Danssalon in Eindhoven.”

What song can’t you get out of your head right now?

“Miike Snow – ‘Devils Work. I really like that track.”

What new producers or DJs have you spotted over the last few months that we should be looking out for this year?

“Damian William, Firebeatz and Dyro& Jerry Rekonius.”

It’s your birthday, what 3 DJs do you invite to play for you?

“Still the one and only Carl Cox the man is a living legend! Eric Prydz and my mate Benjamin Bates (not sure if Carl and Eric will show up but I can always try hey ho!”

And finally, what are your plans studio wise for 2012, what’s coming next from TAO?

“Well we have ‘Scream’ planned for release of course, I have a few tracks I am working on at the moment which will need to find a home with TAO and In Charge when finished. I test my tracks very thoroughly and am not easily satisfied so it is a big decision process always. I did a remix for Daddy’s Groove that is coming soon. Remixing the Nervo girls next release and just finished a nice little bootleg which I will release soon. So there is loads coming up. We chose to set up TAO Recordings as this fits my musical profile best and we only release Marco V tracks on there for now. My sound has always been an in between kind of sound crossing over within the Techno and Trance genre leaning towards progressive and Big Room, so this is what we focus on with TAO and I must say we have support across the board on almost all releases, so I am very happy with that. Analogital is doing great too and is very well received.  And of course I will continue releasing tracks on In Charge too which is going strong, but here I also sign tracks by other artists. Be on the lookout for Strobe & Jashari’s next killer tune ‘Go. Bang’ out soon…”
