Uruguay explodes onto the world’s musical stage
Welcome to DMCWORLD Gabriel. You have The Buzz Chart people going crazy at the moment with your remix of the Ricardo Silvio & Steff Da Campo ‘Pleasure’ remix and you are also smashing the Beatport chart with your remix of Lee Cabrera’s ‘Shake It’ tune. You are one of Uruguay’s biggest DJs, how old were you when you started to fall in love with dance music and how did you get to hear these sounds?
“Thanks for your kind words! I began falling in love with dance music at the age of 12 when I started working as a light jockey in a club. I grew up listening to all the music from the 80s and 90s and I think that my productions have been influenced of these periods.”
If you hadn’t become a producer and DJ – what do you think you would have ended up doing as a career?
“Well I also worked as a radio operator for around seven years and I think I’d have surely gone into that.”
What did your family think of your career choice?
“Luckily my family supports me all the time and believed in me.”
What was your first break into the music industry?
“My first break was when I edited Miami Vice, it was really Important for my career. It’s open so many doors and even today Miami Vice still has repercussions.”
Tell us about the Uruguayan music scene. What is the sound of the clubs in your south American home country?
“I think the Electronica scene in Uruguay today is stronger in summer in Punta del Este. A lot of people come from all over the world. Since 1990 lots of amazing DJs have been playing in different clubs. The most popular styles there are House, Tech House and Techno. I think in Uruguay, Punta del Este is a place that has a special vibe and together with the music and people makes an amazing electronic scene.”
Who are the big DJs you are giving props to at the moment and some of the clubs you are enjoying out there…
“I have a big respect for the work of Mark Knight, Nic Fanciulli and Joris Voorn amongst others. I could name many more DJs though! This summer I had the opportunity of playing for Space Ibiza and it’s amazing. Carpe Diem Beach in Split Croatia is also spectacular. I could also name many more clubs, I think every place has its charm, I always have very good experiences everywhere.”
How does Uruguay compete with the likes of Brazil and Argentina who have both been established for a while musically and clubwise? How is it different?
“I do not like to compare. Each place or country in general has its culture and different people. For that reason to have significant differences could not compare. I think every place I have gone to has it’s magic and I respect and enjoy the sites as they are.”

Ibiza season is upon us, where can we find you there this summer?
“As I said earlier, I found myself playing at Space in Ibiza and also also Sankyes on the island too. Ibiza is a place where all DJs want to go. There is a DJ under every rock…lol…Everyone who goes to Ibiza will enjoy the beach, the music and DJs, the party in general. I think they are all on the same mind level and that makes it a place with a special energy.”
How would you describe your musical style?
“I describe my musical style as a mixture of Latin grooves, funky bass and lots of South American Sounds.”
And finally, what is coming next studio wise for DJ PP…
“Well I have a remix of a classic Boca Linda for Cr2, a remix of ‘I Feel Love’ by Donna Summer, a remix for Toolroom Records’ DJ Joeski Hustlers Revenge, also the presentation of my album Ibiza Underground by Cr2. I’ve been working on my own album for five years too. And also, many other things…!”
