DMCWORLD AWARDS 2016 – DJ LICIOUS

Tune : Jax Jones – House Work

Just one of those tunes that became big in the underground scene as well as getting massive radio airplay. This worked on every dance floor I had in front of me this year.

Album : How to pimp a butterfly – Kendrick Lamar

Absolute genius, he alone restores hip hop with only 1 album to its old glory.

Remix : Purple Disco Machines remix of Two Door Cinema Club – Bad Decisions

I’ve known Tino for some time and he has always been at the head of the disco/house revival which is taking place at this moment, and this remix is the apotheosis.

Best label : Defected

Still a beacon for house music after more than a decade of releases.

Best breakthrough label : SHOMI

Started my own label this summer and already 2 of our releases got worldwide support by the biggest names in the scene and signed to the biggest majors there are. Not bad for a first year, even if I say so myself.

Best Producer : Bob Moses

Every track they produce is absolutely gorgeous and goes straight to the heart.

Festival : Tomorrowland

Been playing at this festival for 6 years now and every time they still manage to exceed all expectations in the next year.

Music Conference : ADE

Hands down the best, most complete and full scale conference there is.

Radio Show : Pete Tong

This man still decides what is hot or not, no competition.

Mainstage DJ : Chocolate Puma

They have 20 years of performing behind them and still remain an inspiration for all these young producers getting love from all over the world. I tip my hat for these guys, their energy during a set is unseen.

Resident DJ : Carl Cox

I know it’s breaking down an open door, but this man never fails and always delivers during his sets at Space (Revolution). Big fan. Too bad the residency is ending now, it’s the end of an era.

Club : Space

Maybe a nostalgic decision and a club that will be chosen many times, but it was my first clubbing experience in Ibiza. Nothing will wipe out that memory. Best club by far, sad to see it go.

New Studio Equipment/Software : UAD

Love my UAD, loads of excellent plugins and no extra recourses needed from your CPU.

Personal highlight of 2016 :

Must have been my single “Calling” being played for the first and a second time by Pete Tong on his legendary BBC Radio 1 radioshow. It was the start of a magical summer with some amazing gigs, love and loads of music.

Your ambition for 2017…

Keep doing what I love and love what I am doing. So expect a lot of remixes, new originals, gigs, touring, and more shenanigans.
