Album:
Encore by DJ Snake and Starboy by The Weeknd. Encore shows DJ Snake’s versatility as a producer because he experimented with many different styles of dance music, yet staying true to his sound. The Weeknd’s album had such an amazing vibe and each of the songs were written, produced and mixed really well. Starboy will definitely set the tone for the sound of Radio in 2017.
Remix:
Slip Away Bass House Remix. Sound Design wise this remix was really cool.
Best label:
Sony RED. I loved how they pushed Daya and Flume’s records this year. Two of my fav artists of the year.
Best breakthrough label:
Casablanca and Mom+Pop . I loved how Casablanca pushed The Cheat Codes. Mom+Pop label has great artists and great music.
Best Producer:
Max Martin, Flume and Mura Masa. I still don’t think Max Martin gets the attention he deserves, if you listen to his work in The Weeknds album, it transcends beyond dance and electronic music and his fusion between live and electronic instruments is unmatchable. Flume is amazing at sound design and his tracks always sound awesome. Mura Masa is my recent discovery and I love the vibe he creates in a track, pretty inspiring.
Festival:
ADE. Just got back from ADE a month back and had an awesome time there. The production was great!
Music Conference:
Miami. It was my first time in MMW this year and probably one of the most important events of my entire life.
Radio Show:
The Joycast by Sanjoy. I don’t mean to blow my own horn, I think you should check it out for yourself. DJs don’t really mix on their podcasts they just transition from song to song and talk about some of the music and their current projects in the middle. Joycast is where you let loose for an hour and just vibe out. It’s a seamless mix of big room, deep house, trap, pop everything.
Mainstage DJ:
Skrillex, DJ Snake & The Chainsmokers. Skrillex and DJ Snake have the most energetic and creative sets ever. The Chainsmokers create an awesome vibe live.
Resident DJ:
Amy Robbins. She is a local DJ on 99.7 in SF. I love the way she mixes and her personality.
Club:
Omnia. Massive! Also amazing lights.
New Studio Equipment/Software:
UAD all plugins bundle. I recently decided to give in to the hype of UAD plugins and the quality is unmatchable.
Personal highlight of 2016:
Miami Music Week. I’ve received an unbelievable amount of support from all the connections I made in Miami. If you’re an up and coming producer, make it a goal to be at the conference and figure out a way to get into the events.
Your ambition for 2017:
Give the world a proper taste of Sanjoy. Shows + Releases. It’s going to be amazing to be able to properly release all the music I’ve made in 2016…
