Emily Nash

At only 20 years old, Emily has made an instant impact. A rare gem in the electronic world, she’s a young female DJ and producer who has already remixed for Little Mix and Navos as well as releasing her own huge house hits. Emily’s debut singles have racked up plays on BBC Radio 1, Capital and Kiss and led to her being included on both Beatport and Amazon’s prestigious “Ones To Watch” features for 2022. She’s only performed at a handful of gigs but the ones she has done include Leeds Festival, Creamfields and most recently at Tobacco Dock for New Year’s Eve. And all before she turns 21! In the aftermath of the release of her first single with Ministry of Sound ‘Garden’, DMCWORLD decided it was the perfect time to find out about this tech house monster and just what this emerging superstar is all about…

Hi Emily, welcome to DMC! Tell us about your latest single ‘Garden’ on Ministry of Sound, how did this track come together for you?

I made “Garden” back in lockdown. I came across this haunting vocal and I made the track around it. I used a pretty simple bass but it just worked really nicely. I then added an unusual synth and a few drums and it came together really well.

The track is still going down a storm which is really exciting. Can you tell us what else you’re up to at the moment? Are you working on a follow up?

There may be a few remixes of Garden in the pipeline so watch out! However I’m also working on lots more music, in sessions with some very exciting people and getting my next single ready.

You’ve produced most of your tracks in your bedroom over the last couple of years, what’s it been like to finally get into clubs and play them to a real crowd?

It feels amazing, sometimes when I’ve made a track I picture where I want to play it. For Garden I imagined Printworks and that then happened shortly after it was released. It’s so magical how an idea that was made in my bedroom can then be turned around and played out to thousands of people. It’s so great to see everyone dancing and enjoying the tracks as well!

What most important lessons have you learned since starting in music?

To never give up, I’ve been lucky but there have been times at the start of my career where your waiting on a reply or an email or just something to happen. I’d send music to labels and sometims they’d never reply, but you just have to be patient and if you really want it don’t give up and keep chasing those dreams.

How would you describe your sound and style?

My sound can vary in each song I make but I usually go for a dance style sound especially with my bass. However I also love making tech house. At the moment I’d say I have a dark dance sound.

If you could send the ‘Garden’ stems to anyone, who would you choose to remix it and why?

I think it would have to be MK, he’s one of my main inspirations and I just love his sound. I reckon he could put a real nice summer feel to the track which would be very interesting.

And if you could work with any vocalist, who would you choose to sing on your next track and why?

Becky Hill, I love her voice I think it’s perfect for many songs but especially in the Dance scene. I feel like she brings a lot of energy to different tracks so it would be great to work with her.

What does a typical day look like for Emily Nash?

Wake up have breakfast, have a coffee. If I’ve got things to do or send stuff to people then I’ll get that sorted first. And then in my free time that I have I’ll finish off any ideas of tracks I was making or I’d start a brand new track. I also like to go to the gym so I’ll try and fit an hour at the gym in there somewhere. And then towards the end of the day I normally go on my decks and practice for my next set where ever that will be.

What are big 5 tunes you have on repeat at the moment?

Diplo, Miguel – Don’t Forget My Love

Jess Bays, Poppy Baskcomb – Temptation

UK Apache, SHY FX – Original Nutter (Chase &  Status Remix)

Sonny Fodera, Biscits – About You

Becky Hill, Icarus – Loosing (Icarus Remix)

Finally, what else can we expect from you in the coming months?

Some brand new absolute bangers! I’ve also got a lot of DJ gigs lined up so you might see me in the clubs and festivals!
