Famba

After bursting onto the scene in 2016, Ryan Pettipas aka Famba graduated from the local music scene in his hometown Halifax, NS to become one of the Canada’s most exciting electronic artists. He has quickly earned a reputation for his heartfelt songs and laudable production talents via his major label original releases and widespread remixes which have collectively garnered tens of millions of streams across multiple platforms. His first two major label releases, “Wish You Well (feat. Trove)”and “Swear to God”each went on to achieve Gold certified status in Canada, while his third release, “Storm (feat. Kyra Mastro)”introduced Famba to the U.S. market in a big way by scoring the #1 spot at Dance Radio (Mediabase) and logging over 10 million global streams to date. The newest sonic offering ‘Still Call You Mine’ has received the remix treatment courtesy of Stockholm’s Hellberg who transforms the track into a driving tech-house smash. And it’s the perfect time for a DMCWORLD world exclusive with the main man himself…

What stands out to you most when listening to remixes of your own songs?

I like when people take a different approach to the production, sure making a new drop is cool, but a totally new vibe is always so refreshing!

What’s your own production process like when remixing versus crafting an original production?

I usually always try and flip the vibe of the song, while taking some inspiration from the original song to stay somewhat true to the song. It always changes, but I usually just keep the vocals and craft new music elements.

The music video for ‘Still Call You Mine’ has garnered over 429k streams in a matter of mere months — what does it feel like seeing the immense success that the visual component to your hit song has already received?

It’s amazing! It was such a fun music video to shoot, and definitely my first music video with stunt coordinators and stunt doubles haha. Would love to do more of that in the future.

Do you have plans to release more music videos in the near future?

Of course! We’re planning for my next single now.

Stockholm-based talent Hellberg has just come out with a new, stellar remix of your track ‘Still Call You Mine’ — do you have a favorite song of his?

I love his sound! So diverse and musical. It’s hard to pick a favourite, but I really love his new Alan Walker remix.

Personally, what’s your favorite remix of all-time?

Calvin Harris – I’m Not Alone (Deadmau5 Remix). I’ve played that song over 1000 times easily.

What are your upcoming plans looking like for the remainder of 2021?

I’ll be locked in the studio or playing video games until the world opens up again.

You’ve been releasing since 2015 — where do you see your sound progressing over the next 6 years?

I think my sound will land into a more refined house lane. More organic sounds and more analog gear.

If there was any place or event you could perform at where would it be and why?

I think Ultra Miami, because that was the first full scale production I ever saw. Would be a total full circle moment to be on that stage.

What’s been the most rewarding aspect of your DJ/producer career so far?

To me, it’s connecting with the listeners and hearing people’s responses. The best feeling in the world is hearing people’s messages about how my songs have helped them in tough times. It’s incredibly rewarding!
