The future is looking perfect for the bass generators
Welcome back to DMCWORLD guys. The last time we spoke in May 2012 I asked you the whereabouts of the album, you replied…”It’s finished! Expect to see a number of singles over the summer with the album dropping in October.” Now I know you are perfectionists, but blimey…?
“Yeah, apologies for that! It’s been a long time coming but a year on we will be releasing the album on 5th May. Let’s just say its taken us a while to get it totally complete, but given the extra time we are happy to deliver something we are really happy with. We can’t wait to get it out and for people to hear it!”
Cool. Well the album as you say is released on May 5th through Ram Records. 15 tracks featuring some great collaborations. Talk us through some of them…
‘Do You Feel Me’; feat. Scrufizzer – Really fortunate to have Scru as a feature on our opening track of the album. He seems to be everywhere at the moment and his double time flow is really unique and it sits so well on our tune. An example of how we’ve really carefully chosen our features, artists that we really respect who are doing big things.
‘Black & White’ feat. Benny Banks – Our last release which was a departure in style for us but always loved this track so to add Benny Banks to the equation was a great look. He kills it with his cutting lyrics and really hard flow and that’s what ultimately made this record a success.
‘Warrior’ feat. Jakes – a straightforward club banger that has been smashing it, Jakes’ vocal gives it a recognisable and stand out feel.
‘Losing You’ feat. Jenn D – Jenn is someone we’ve been working with closely for a few years now. She is a big part of our live show and we’ve written a few tunes with her. She has a great feel for song writing, she really blew us away when she came back with the vocal for ‘Losing You’. A very talented artist, look out for more soon.
‘Distance’ feat. Lloyd Yates – Lloyd Yates, what a guy. Really pleased how this track came together and a real pleasure to work with a vocalist who no doubt has big things to come.”
I think it’s fair to say that bass music has come out of the shadows to be the only (thankfully) real contender to take EDM’s crown with Disclosure, Rudimental and DJ Fresh just some of the big artists hogging the limelight. How do the artists in your arena look at the likes of the Guetta’s and the Avicii’s and their similar sounding million pound music? Could you give a shit?
“You can’t deny the impact made by artists such as Guetta, and for that reason you have to respect them whatever you think of their music. We actually really like pop music and even if you think a lot of it is shit, its actually by far the hardest thing to produce a successful pop record, and these guys seem to make hit after hit.”
How is the golf coming along?
“Awful to be honest. We got banned from the golf club for getting caught picking mushrooms….ridiculous.”
What is the current top 10 you are spinning?
Loadstar – Refuse to Love
Loadstar – Warrior
Porter Robinson – Easy (Andy C Remix)
TC – Get Down Low
Loadstar – Scorpio
Mind Vortex – Arc/Alive
Wilkinson – Take you Higher/Direction
Sub Focus – Endorphins
Upbeats – Beyond Reality
Schoolboy – Lunch
Where are the big UK festivals we can catch you at this summer?
“Glastonbury, Evolution, Kendall Calling, Nostock plus more I can’t remember right now!”
But the big stage beckons we hear too on American shores – tell us about these VERY FUCKING exciting dates…
“YES! Seriously loving the vibe stateside and Canada right now, we seem to be there every month. We start with Miami and a short 8 date US and Canada tour, then over the coming months its all about EDC – Vegas, NYC, Chicago; also Starscape and other festivals TBC!”
What is coming next from you studio wise…
“We are really excited about the release of the album and have already began working on new Loadstar material . We are writing new music all the time and are keen to get back in the studio with Benny and Scru to perhaps work on some bits for their project. We are also working with some other UK based rappers such as Dot Rotton which has been really good.”
What would you say are the qualities you both bring to the studio?
“Nick is a very talented musician and can play almost any instrument so he definitely bring a real musicality to our tracks where as I (Gav) tend to focus more on sound design and the technical aspects. Working together is great as both our styles really compliment each other and as we both came from solo production background we are always writing new ideas and bouncing them off each other.”
Who are some of the up n’coming artists you are giving high fives to at the moment?
“Really loving Bobby Tank as his music has so much funk to it, we’ve been lucky enough to enlist his remix skills for our next single ‘refuse to love’ so watch out! Two Inch Punch is also doing big things.”
A big album launch party coming up down at Fabric, what have you got in store for us?
“You will have to come and see! We are not doing a full live show but we do have a few surprise features coming down to help us celebrate so expect something special!”
And finally, a tough question, what is each of your’s favourite tune from the album?
Nick – “‘Losing You’ feat Jenn D – it was one of the older cuts we selected for the album but still as a song it sounds so good, never really got tired of hearing it.”
Gav – “‘Distance’ feat Lloyd Yates – this track gets me every time i hear it, the vocals are really epic and Lloyd puts so much feeling into it that it make the track sound really unique and I like that, definitely one that will divide people’s opinion!”
