Boom! Hypergenic Supersonic Futuristic Monophonic! The man V back in charge

Hey Marco! Welcome back to DMCWORLD. Where in the world are you right now?

“Hey Dan, I’m in Canada, where I’m playing in Edmonton and Calgary this weekend!”

A brand new single ‘Hypergenic Supersonic Futuristic Monophonic’ out now on your own In Charge Recordings. Talk us through this aptly names tune…

“I’ve been wanting to do this sort of vocoder thing in a new track for a while now and when we had that harsh bass line groove going I knew it was time. I wanted a short vocal sample before the drop, but not too generic. The words didn’t actually have to mean anything as long as they sounded cool!”

Good job vinyl is finished now. Your name label to fit the title of the record would have been the size of a Frisbee!

“Haha! Indeed, but it sure is a title you will never forget!”

To coincide with the release, you have also created a video game, a throwback to the 80s Atari video game era. So are you a Frogger, a Pac Man fiend, a classic Space Invaders or a Defender dude?

“Space Invaders all the way, which is not very surprising if you’ve seen the game on apps.facebook.com/marcovhsfm

How did the charity event in your home town go last week? There must have been lots of old faces in the house?

“Yeah it’s always nice to see those people who have been following me since the early days. Furthermore, the night was a big success! The goal was raising money for a well-known Dutch organization that funds cancer research. It was actually kind of a prelude to a huge event called Alpe d’Huzes that will involve thousands of people climbing the infamous Alpe d’Huez in France by bike during the 6th and 7th of July.”

What is the current top 10 you are spinning?

    1.    Benjamin Bates – Layzor
    2.    Daddy’s Groove & Cryogenix – Tilt
    3.    Knife Party – Death Machine
    4.    W&W – Thunder
    5.    Markus Binapfl feat. Brighi – Human (David Tort remix)
    6.    George Acosta and Henry John Morgan – Ding Dong
    7.    Vandalism Feat Nick Clow – Anywhere Else Tonight

Ibiza season is just around the corner, where can we catch you on the white isle this year?

“We’re still working on some dates but the ones that are confirmed are on Sunday nights in San Antonio. There are some changes going on but I can’t say anything about that at the moment.”

Some of the venues in Ibiza have moaned about the DJ fees the casino clubs in Las Vegas have been offering this summer, making it tougher to tie down the big spinners. Is this sour grapes or do you think it is a problem that billionaire budget clubs have not seriously entered clubland?

“With the money made from selling music going down for years on end now, it’s a natural thing for DJ/producers to try and grab the extra cash playing gigs for more money. Especially now that a lot of us have gained somewhat of a superstar status. I think it’s also hard to blame the Vegas clubs either, who are obviously also just looking at this from the business perspective and simply want to bring in the big names to satisfy their crowds.”

What has been your best ever festival experience?

“I really liked the Tomorrowland festival last year, but my best experience to date is still my set closing the main stage at Mysteryland. I still get goose bumps just thinking about that.”

What is coming out next from you studio wise?

“A new track on Flamingo Records: “Bugabull”, a vocal track on my own In Charge Recordings called “Waiting For The End”. Next to these releases, I’ve been working on a collab with David Puentez on Juicy Records, a  collab with Alex Guesta & Stephano Pain on Revealed Records and lastly there will be a track coming out with vocals by Christian Burns.”

Who are the producers from around the world you are giving high fives to right now?

“I really like the stuff that Alleso produces. Also, Deniz Koyu and W&W are also banging out tunes that I love to play.”

Where was the last great NEW club you discovered?

“I didn’t play any new clubs lately, but this year’s Ibiza season could be that great new club experience…”

Everyone is talking about it, but what are your thoughts on the new Daft Punk album?

“I’m really liking the new single, but I am not too keen on checking out the whole album somehow. Maybe it’s because I don’t want to be disappointed? It will be hard for them to beat their previous work!”

Who is the person from history whom you’d most like to have a beer with?

“Yikes…. Erm… Ghandi? Though we’ll probably end up drinking water all night.”

What is the song that means the most to you?

“Jack Your Body” by Steve “Silk” Hurley. It was just so different from anything else when that came out and I believe it is one of the fundaments of EDM. So yeah, it means a lot to me!”

And finally, who is the person who has influenced you the most in your career?

“Patrick Cowley and Bobby Orlando are two producers who got me enthusiastic for electronic synthesizer music for the first time. Those guys influenced me a lot.”
