The boy wonder can’t put a foot wrong this summer

Welcome back to DMC towers Nicky. A massive tune smashing up everywhere right now, your collaboration with Fedde le Grand ‘Sparks’ – how did the idea of this collaboration happen in the first place?

“Hi Guys, thanks for having me again much appreciated! Well Fedde and I are good mates and have been for a long time. Fedde has always supported me and has been a great mentor since the start of my career. We always cross paths a few times a year, help each other out with problems we run into on the productional side of things and make tracks when out schedules allow it. So we got together a few months ago and ‘Sparks’ was born.”

Was this a case of firing over music the Atlantic or did you actually get in the studio together?

“No we actually sat in the studio together and made this track together!!”

Why do you think yours and Fedde’s style mix so well together? Sometimes don’t work, this time it did!

“That is something I cant really put my finger on we just have an incredible workflow, of course not everything works out always, but teaming up with Fedde almost always bears fruit. He has loads of experience and knows what works on the floor, that combined with good technical skills makes for a winning formula if I may say so myself.”

What are the future plans for you two in the studio?

“As mentioned before we always try to hook up where and when we can. The problem is, that both our schedules are so hectic momentarily I can hardly find the time to produce myself, that being the most important thing to me I think both our management’s will have to plan this carefully.”

So, a mad busy summer for you. What have been the highlights to date? Where has stood out?

“To be honest and not to sound cheesy or overly diplomatic, but almost all the gigs I have done recently are absolutely phenomenal!! Gigs that have stood out for me are the ones where I got to play with David Guetta as a resident for his F*&K Me I’m Famous nights at Pacha and Ushuaia in Ibiza. It is so much fun!!!”

Funniest thing that has happened to you on tour recently?

“There was this girl in the US that was in the crowd and she pretended to flash me and when her top came off she had two stickers with my logo on her nipples, you had to be there, it was really funny.”

You tweeted recently that “4 different timezones in a week makes you feel like a banana in a blender” – when was the last time you had a holiday or went out and got hammered in a night off?

“Hahahhahaha! Holiday – what’s that?? And for the record, I don’t really drink, smoke or do drugs, I am not really into that to be honest. The schedule is a full time job to keep up with anyway. In September it looks like I have a few days off so I am really looking forward to that. It means I get a few days in the studio in a row YAY!!”

How far ahead is your diary booked, for instance, do you know where you are playing on New Years Eve?

“Yes my year is booked up totally, for New Years we are still weighing our options, routing etc. so I couldn’t tell you where I will end up playing but I assure you it will be a blast!!”

You bump into all sorts of your DJ mates during the summer on the road – who is dangerous if you bump into them partying wise?

“Hahaha no comment!!!!”

As I am writing this, you are hours away from your debut at Ushuaia – what are you expecting from this colossal venue. It’s frickin wicked by the way!

“As I am writing this we just wrapped up that gig and it was absolutely rockin!!!! What a party, I really have to give it to Cathy and David for their next level production they have the ability to astound and knock you off your feet. This time they had this lady hanging from a bunch of real balloons hovering over the crowd, it was INSANE!!!!!! The people were really up for a party and it was great fun playing with the Nervo’s and David –  great great people!”

How have you found Ibiza this year, enjoying it?

“Yes!! I played two gigs there last year and it was my first time out. This year I am over there regularly and I am getting to know the island a little, I must say I truly understand why people love to come out there to party and to play.”

What has been your summer anthem to date?

“Well ‘Sparks’ is doing quite well hehe. My track ‘Like Home’ with the Nervo’s has that summer vibe and feel to it so I am very fond of that. Actually there is so much new stuff I have coming up I cant really choose, sorry.”

What are the big festivals you are especially looking forward to over the next few weeks?

“Really looking forward to the next Global Gathering Kiev, St Petersburg and UK, Ballaton Sounds in Hungary, Tomorrowland Belgium, Veld Toronto, Electric Zoo New York and many more.”

Have you witnessed any great DJ sets this summer?

“Nowadays I am some pretty strong line ups so I witness nothing but great sets by my colleagues to be honest.”

What is coming next from you studio wise?

“Soooo much, I have been in the studio with David Guetta quite a lot recently, Did a track with Calvin Harris, a track with the Nervo girls a track with Zedd, tracks with a few really big artists coming up, I will let you know when I can! But loads and loads of new stuff on the shelf!”
