Axwell

Meet man of the moment, producer Axwell…

The great thing about dance music is when wonderful music gets it’s chance to make proper melodies bounce around our ears. Thanks then to Positiva and Defected for coming together to bring us Axwell, Bob Sinclar and Ron Carroll’s ‘What A Wonderful World’ tune.

Big ups from Radio 1’s Pete Tong and Zane Lowe then? How does that feel?
“It feels great to have these two heavyweights onboard. It’s a great indication and a good boost to know that you are doing something right.”

How did the Defected and Positiva joining forces shit happen?
“Well, Bob Sinclar has always worked with Defected and as of late I have worked with Positiva, so it was a bit of a tough one as to which label we should sign the track to. So the labels understood our dilemma and came up with the idea of collaborating on this specific record. I love it when people find ways of collaborating!”

Bob Sinclar – hmmm, must be a bit awe-inspiring working with someone who has enjoyed ten top ten smashers…
“I have always been a massive fan of Bob Sinclar from the time I bought the ‘Champs Elysses’ record in London. I listened to this amazing album over and over again. The whole vibe of him is amazing, just when you think you have him figured out – he surprises you! He is probably the hardest working man in house music, so of course it’s a pleasure to work together – although he makes me feel lazy. I have always thought I was a hard worker but…”

Where do you live, what are you on and where do you shake your arse?
“I live in Stockholm, however I have been on tour for about six weeks now so it’s all a bit blurry. But I love Stockholm and my friends there and I love to go to crappy pizzerias and drink the cheapest beer there is. It’s a bit of a revolt to all the glamourous and fancy parties I have to ‘endure’ during my work hours!”

Tell us about your new future vinyl shiners…
“Not sure at the moment. Right now it’s all about ‘What A Wonderful World’ and my collaboration with Dirty South – ‘Open Your Heart’. This has taken up my summer and in October I will get back into the studio and get back into geek mode, rediscovering different types of music and synths and just nerd around in there and slowly start on next summer’s tunes – if I’m lucky, maybe I can manage an album.”

Sweden – France – America – a weird collaboration but a collaboration we thank the dance music disco god about – er, how did this come about and what are your future plans?
“Well, myself and Bob have done remixes for each other a few times now and I had this instrumental track that I wasn’t sure what to do with so I played it to Bob In Los Angeles and he was like, “leave it with me and I’ll see what I can do”. I didn’t think much about it at the time but later in the year during WMC in Miami he told me he had finished it! I was like, “what, with who, where and how does it sound?”. He said, “you will hear it eventually…” I just had to hang in there until we had our party at Mansion where he played it for the first time, and Ron Carrol was on the vocals which sounded amazing. So it was fun to hear it for the first time at WMC, sort of like it wasn’t even my record – I love those things.”

Axwell & Bob Sinclar feat. Ron Carroll’s ‘What A Wonderful World’ is released on Positiva/Defected on 29 September
