The Doorn Records boss continues an incredible year with the release of his MOTi collab ‘Lost’. What a way to round off 2015…
Sander a huge welcome back to DMCWORLD…where in the world are you today?
Hey Dan! I just did a show in Sutra, CA. Awesome times.
What was the first piece of music you heard this morning after rolling out of bed?
I listened to a mastered version of Lost, my track with MOTi! It sounds really good!
Ah glad you mentioned this track! How did this whole project come about in the first place?
Well I’ve known him for quite a while and you know how these things go. We listen to each others projects / demos all the time and at one point we were like, ‘Dude, we have to finish this track together!’. And so we did.
Please talk us through the sound and production of the track…
Producing this track was a very natural process, me and MOTi get along great so it was basically just a lot of fun and testing out what works. We manipulated the vocals into something really special I think and that makes it stand out from a lot of other tracks. We’re both really excited about it.
Who road-tested the track first?
I think we both started playing it at around the same time. It’s just that these tracks change all the time when you’re in the process of producing it, so we might have road tested it but it could have been an entirely different song.
The dust has settled in Amsterdam after a spectacular ADE…what were some of the highlights for you?
Well first and foremost obviously my night in the well known Escape Club over there. It was jam-packed and the vibe and energy was just amazing. But besides from the parties, it’s great fun to be in Amsterdam during ADE, everyone’s there and you get to catch up with everyone after a busy summer of touring.
What are the release plans for the label over the next few months?
Ah, we’re always setting up new releases but I can’t tell you too much about them as of right now. What I can tell you is that we’ve got a new Tony Junior track coming which should be really awesome.
You rocked Hong Kong for the Don’t Let Daddy Know crew a few weeks back – these boys are on fire right now with their parties right?
Yeah definitely! Don’t Let Daddy Know has been taking over the world with their events and was cool to play their first Hong Kong edition! They’ve got a few other events planned in Istanbul and Chile this year so things are going well for them.
What are the 5 big tunes in your box this weekend…
1. Abel The Kid & Abel Ramos – Old Skool
Two Abel’s on a track is obviously a huge hit..
2. Zonderling ft. BISHØP – Crazy For You
Zonderling is one of the group that is Noisia, it proves that he can really do anything! Produce as a solo artist and in a band as well.
3. Tony Junior & JETFIRE ft Rivero
Whenever Tony drops a new track it’s always like christmas has come early. Love his stuff.
4. Sander van Doorn & MOTi – Lost
People actually request this one all the time for Identity, and it’s obviously a huge track.
5. No Mana – Tell Me
Incredible tune from Deadmau5’ label Mau5trap
An up and coming producer/DJ to watch out for in 2016?
Well he’s not exactly up and coming anymore but Julian Jordan is someone that’s going to be huge next year!
Not many people know this, but Sander van Doorn is really good at…
Mixing drinks! I think I should be a bartender if the DJ-thing ever stops.
Your favourite festival and also club set of the year so far…?
This is difficult! I played Sensation Amsterdam which was the 10 year anniversary so that one was obviously very special
Gotta ask – what the hell was Nicaragua like in September? What a place…
You know what, because of the crazy summer schedule I didn’t really get the time to enjoy the country! I had a gig in the US the day before and a gig in Ibiza just two days after! Obviously the time I spent there was very good but I’d love to go back there sometime and enjoy the culture and the country.
Looking back at 2015…do you think it has been a good year for music and clubland around the world?
Well it’s hard to say it hasn’t. I mean, look at all of the amazing festivals and clubs that are expanding and improving each and every year. 2015 has probably marked the highest level of popularity in EDM and that’s something that comes with a lot of amazing benefits, but unfortunately there’s always someone that’s not down with it, so there’s a little hate too. I think overall it’s been an excellent year.
And finally, what is coming out next from you studio wise?
Next up is obviously my track Lost with MOTi, next week actually! Other than that, there’s a couple of cool projects that I’m working on, I’d like to keep it quite though because I don’t want to spoil anything for you guys!
