Huge new tune ‘Gargoyles’ absolutely smashing The Buzz Chart
Interview : Dan Prince
Sergio welcome to DMCWORLD, where in the world are you right now?
“Hello guys, at the moment I am in my studio finishing some new banging tracks! I hope to share them with you very soon!”
A huge new tune swinging our way, ‘Gargoyles’ that The Buzz Chart people are going crazy about!! When I told them that I was interviewing you today, they said that ‘Gargoyles’ should win an Oscar for the most dramatic soundtrack of 2013. What do you think about that?
“Ahaha thanx! It is pretty funny cause this track was born on a dark cloudy afternoon in Autumn, so my intention was to convey all these dark, epic and little scary emotions into this track – and I think it has succeeded! Then the title came spontaneously as a result of what I had created.”
Okay let’s rewind for a moment. Can you tell us how old you were when you discovered electronic music and who were the producers/DJs you admired back then?
“I was 11 years old when I discovered electronic music…it was 1993 and I was pretty young. First I listened to the more pop side of dance before I started to listen and buy tracks from classic DJs/producers/artists such as Daft Punk, The Prodigy, Dr. Motte & Westbam, Paul Van Dyk and Mauro Picotto . After the initial few years with guys like these I started to look at the whole area of electronic music – I was hooked!”
Was music always go to be involved in your career, was there ever anything else you were interested in at school?
“Since I was at school I always knew exactly what I wanted to become when I grew up. I could not see myself in any other profession other than becoming a DJ. Maybe it was my destiny?”
What was your first break in the music industry?
“I have produced electronic music since 2002 and have completed many, many tracks…some of them are famous in Italy like “I Gotta Feel It”, some of them are famous in other countries around the rest of the world and supported by many international DJs like “Ready 2 Rock” , but I’m still waiting for my very first world wide big break in the music industry, maybe with “Gargoyles”? I hope so!”
Who are your big DJ friends on the world circuit? Who is good to party with?
“My big DJ friends are the Italian DJs Molella and Amerigo Provenzano from M2o Radio Station, and also Marco Ravelli from RadioStudio+. It is good to party with all of them!”

1) Sergio Mauri – Gargoyles (RISE-TIME)

Where have some of your stand out gigs from the summer been – Bologna looked crazy!
“Yeah Bologna was crazy! It was back in June when I opened for the top Italian rocker and singer Vasco Rossi with my DJ set in front of 45 000 people at the Bologna Stadium! Amazing! Another incredible gig was at BCM in Palma, Mallorca – voted the 6th Best Club in The World by DJMag readers this year! I played after Calvin Harris in front of 5000 screaming kids. Insane!”
Anthem of the summer?
“Armin Van Buuren – This Is What It Feels Like.”
You have just mentioned BCM, we have seen you play at BCM in Mallorca a couple of times, it’s a big club with a big UK following, is it a club you look forward to playing at in the summer?
“Most definitely! I always look forward to playing at BCM, cause for me it is like a second home. Although there is an audience of mostly English there usually, when I play in August it is of course the month when many Italians are on holiday here and also in Ibiza. There are also a lot of Russians there too, which is great for me that I can spread the sound of my productions to new people. Playing after Calvin this year was a great privilige and honour.”
Who are some of the young producers we should be looking out for in 2014 that you have seen this year?
“Martin Garrix of course, but also Vicetone…I love their sound and their productions…”
Tell us about your studio set up?
“In my studio at the moment you will find…a Yamaha NS-10M STUDIO and EVENT 20/20BAS, Mac Pro (2.6 Ghz), MOTU 2408mk3, OctoPre Mk2, M-AUDIO Midi Keyboard and a Rhode Mic.”
