The big new tunes from the big players
Christian Smith is one of the world’s leading exponents of inventive and diverse techno. Both as a DJ and producer he is always bold and innovative, leading rather than following, exploring the world with his exciting and diverse musical palette. With “Omakase” (which translates as tasting menu or entrust in Japanese) – the follow-up to his critically acclaimed “Director’s Cut” (Tronic, 2010) album – he has created a supreme dancefloor orientated selection of tracks that explore and showcase his various styles within the techno genre: groovy, musical, peak-time and minimal. Here are the tunes spinning his world right now…
01. Christian Smith – Dorian Gray – Tronic
This is the lead track from my new “Omakase” album. It’s inspired by early 80’s disco, but with a current techno production.
02. Rodrigo Jr. – Manama – Mobilee
This is an amazing musical deep house track, but you can hear Rodrigo has roots in techno from the way he programs the chords. Love it!
03. Paul Ritch – Space Control – Quartz
A great peak-time track! I play this tune in every set. A must!
04.Wehbba – Attitude – Tronic
This one’s a no-nonsense, funky floor groover from the Brazilian master, with super-phat production. Works a treat!
05. Christian Smith – Vision – Tronic
I named this after a club in Tokyo I played at last year – housey and futuristic – I can’t wait to play it there
06. Dubfire & Oliver Huntemann – Aire – Ideal
Nice twisted techno with the same sequence as Joe Beltram’s classic “Energy Flash”, but totally different of course
07. Pirupa – Bam – Intec
Quite simply – a very good groove – a great tool that always works
08. Inxec & Droog – A Mountian Drop – Last Night On Earth
This is probably my favourite musical tech-house track of the year so far. Really beautiful!
09. Eric Sneo – Move On – Tronic
Jacking techno with loads of shuffled snares, if this doesn’t get the floor going you really have a problem
10. Pig & Dan vs Mark Reeve – Bubbles (Santos Remix) – Waveform
Some serious deep bass business courtesy of Italy’s Santos – not obvious but very good indeed!
