Mike and Danny Parton recently launched Jolene Records with a superb first EP that laid out a fantastic sonic vision. It is where they will showcase their love of artful sampling and passion for crafting celebratory sounds. They have been doing so for years while drawing on ’90s house, French touch, disco and funk across a series of classy outings on plenty of top European labels. As they release ‘Jolene 02’, DMCWorld goes Trainspotting with Danny & Mike Parton.
Alexander Skancke – Only You – Quirk 012
Danny – I love Alexander and his label, Quirk. It grooves! The sounds and textures are always well-crafted, it’s pure class!
Heaven – Salute – Steel City Dance Discs 036
Mike – Groovy drums, vocal that stays in mind, a song that is both super soft and incredibly punchy! I feel lots of joy in the public when I play it, that’s all I want!
Hard Drive Library – Queen – Pomme Frite 008
Danny – I’m a huge fan of both the label and the artist! It’s so well-produced, perfectly in line with the Jolene Records spirit. Lots of good vibes. This track in particular really reflects the mood of our parties: Bring back the disco ball!
Ks French – Its Cool – FKR Records
Mike – One word, Loud! This low-tempo track with those heavily compressed drums and that long clap knocks me to the ground every time I hear it. Perfect sample loop with a naive use of the filter, completely charmed.
Sami Dee – Let Yo’ Body Fly (Dee’s Better Days Zone Mix) – Calvine 01
Danny – This one is so incredible! Sami Dee and Bibi are resident DJs on a national radio show in France called Better Days. It’s had, and still has, a huge impact on my life as an artist. They’ve been a source of inspiration for over 20 years. Long live Better Days!
Braxe + Falcon – Love Me – Smugglers Way 02
Mike – Well, no need to present those guys anymore.. This is for me the real french touch sound, with a real emotion behind the track and the single line ‘Love Me’ that gets stuck in your head. I don’t have the words to explain what I feel when I hear it, but I can imagine all the love they wanted to share in this track!
Furius Kay & Lou Valentino – Life’s Too Short – Funky Tone 50
Danny – This one is one of my personal gems. For some unexplained reason, this track was a massive hit in my hometown, Valence, back in the 2000s. Everyone would go crazy whenever it played in the club. I remember the distributor told my friend, who owns a record store, that he’d sold him more copies than anyone else worldwide! Hahaha
The Phantom’s Revenge – mid summer demo reel – Montaime
Mike – That singing loop is sooo hypnotizing, the drums are unusual for a filtered disco track, and everything works perfectly together. Certainly in my top 5 tracks for peak time!
Cinthie – Ada Lovelace – 803 Crystal Grooves
Danny – I love the whole vibe of this artist, whom I find excellent in both production and DJ sets. She influences me greatly. She effortlessly navigates between filtered house, dub, and more acid tracks. It’s always tasteful and highly effective—simply put, I’m a fan!
Louis La Roche – PALOMA – Ever After Records
Mike – I discovered this guy with his track ‘One Big Gay Disco’ and I fell in love with the groove of the bass! With ‘PALOMA’ ,he comes back with a perfect disco based sample full of good vibes! One of my new DJ weapons.
