Trainspotting With Hilit Kolet

Hilit Kolet has been integral to London’s underground scene ever since she was slinging vinyl at Soho’s legendary Black Market Records. Her distinctive, energetic DJ style established her behind the decks, playing everywhere from Ibiza to Berlin via Shanghai and Oslo. Continuing her hugely successful run of 2024 releases, Hilit Kolet returns to Radio Slave’s revered Rekids label with the two-tracker ‘Snap Talk’ (ft Kameelah Waheed), following in the footsteps of ‘Hot Mess’ (Rekids) and ‘Everything Is Amazing’ (Bush). DMCWorld goes Trainspotting with Hilit Kolet.

Hilit Kolet – Snap Talk – Rekids

A bit of a homage to my days as a samba dancer at London’s Notting Hill Carnival, my new Rekids release is rigged with Brazillian baile funk rhythms as well as Kameelah Waheed’s seductive spoken word vox. I’ve seen so many attempts to Shazam ‘Snap Talk’ during my sets in the past few months so it’s really good to finally have it out in the world.

Hilit Kolet – Gate 33 – Rekids

On the flip of ‘Snap Talk’, ‘Gate 33’ continues the concept with favela funk patterned cowbells, airport announcement samples, broken glass snippets and a vocal which I had a lot of fun writing.

DJ Holographic – Cancer – Through The Veil

Raw, rough, tuff and ready, I’m really into DJ Holographic’s stripped-back approach. This time she goes in with a punchy combo of reverse vox and a sitar sample which really stands out both at home and in the club.

LUPE – The Ninth Circle – Pets Recordings

Sexy acid workout from Lupe, which I’m feeling a lottt right now. The high string being held throughout nearly the entire track is loading it with so much intensity.

Don Rimini & Jackin Trax – Go With The Flow – KD RAW

Been rinsing this one ever since I first played it on my Mixmag Lab at IMS in Ibiza. Disco stab, garage drums and a nice dose of swing to shake the floor – it works every time.

Floorplan – Water – Classic Music Company

Probably my fav track off their new album, Robert and Lyric Hood aka Floorplan are bringing the gospel vox chops to new heights once more. Can’t decide if I’m loving the captivating piano sample more or if it’s the square wave bass that gets the hold of me – probably both.

Floorplan - Water (Extended Mix)

Ketiov – Bang! – Step Rec.

Filtered vocal meets a moreish house chord sample and a percussive loop in this fun and flirty cut from Ketiov, whose sound I’m absolutely loving. He’s a (rare) buy on sight for me now.

Hilit Kolet – Everything Is Amazing – Bush

My single for Bush which came out earlier this year – what an honour to contribute to their seminal catalogue. Led by a cheeky vocal and driven by a hold-tight-it’s-getting-messy whistle, I’ve been playing this one everywhere from Ibiza to Shanghai via Oslo in the past few months.

Everything Is Amazing (Extended Mix)

Demuja – Kitchen Table Wisdom – MUJA

Demuja’s creativity is off the hook with this one – a combo of broken beat drums, atmospheric pads, side-chained string and a vocoder. The result is intriguing just as it is pleasing and I can imagine this sounds HUGE in the club – will report back.

Kitchen Table Wisdom

Jules Wells – Dreamer – COD3 QR

90 style rave piano track, which is bound to bring joy to any (well, nearly) DJ set. The string pattern here reminds me of UR style – in the cart it goes.
