Kidnap, London producer/DJ/multi-instrumentalist/lyricist (whose moniker reflects a youthful prank ‘kidnap’ of himself which hit headlines beyond his wildest expectations) has just released his new single ‘Fortified’ ft. Dwara. The track is the second taster from his upcoming second album, due in Autumn on [PIAS] Électronique. After the double effect of pandemic isolation and a new baby, Kidnap aka Matt Relton responded with a burst of creativity and a slew of new songs and club-enhancing cuts. His new album chronicles the shift from his partying days playing 100+ shows a year at top venues worldwide, releasing hits on Anjunadeep, Armada…, to welcoming his new role as a young father. Keep an eye out for it dropping this Autumn. DMCWorld goes Trainspotting with the brilliant Kidnap.
Kidnap – Fortified ft. Dwara ([PIAS] Électronique)
If I’m allowed to say this about my own track – what I like about it is the restless energy of the harmony. I tried to make it so it feels like it was always moving on and never quite arriving.
Catching Flies – Tides (Indigo Soul)
I love the way Catching Flies has chopped and bent vocal samples in this one. Super effective and really touching!
Aleksandsir – Crawl (Hearth Songs)
This is my favourite track on the Aleksandir EP that just dropped. Moody atmosphere and crispy drums. I love how Aleksandir plays with expectation in his arrangements.
Tourist – Valentine (Monday Recordings)
My most played song from the new Tourist album. I love the baseline progression and the sampled vocal from the Jeremy Spencer Band gives it such a classic feel.
Kidnap – Overgrown ft Leo Stannard ([PIAS] Électronique)
The lyrics are really personal in this song and remind of days gone by with my friends. Always puts a smile on my face listening back to it.
Billie Eilish – CHIHIRO (Interscope)
I’m a fan of a lot of Billie’s music, but I especially like this progression into the big synth arp in the end of the track. Feels like she’s flirting with the dance world.
Parra For Cuva & Orbit – Pinie
Super cool track that has an entrancing effect. I’m a big of both of their music individually and I love the middle ground they’ve found between their sounds.
Sofia Kourtesis – Mardres (Ninja Tune)
The title track of Sofia’s debut album. For me, the production is unique and characterful, and the delivery is full of emotion.
George Fitzgerald & Elderbrook – Glad I Found You (Mine Recordings)
This track is a big slab of pop dance that just has such a warm feeling throughout. It makes me feel happy every time I listen to it. I also love the unusual timing of the vocals in the verse.
Four Tet – Daydream Repeat (Text Records)
This is the side of Four Tet I love the most. Beautiful otherworldly melodies and wonky drums.
Kidnap ‘Fortified’ ft. Dwara is out now on [PIAS] Électronique.
