Continuing with the search for the next best UK DJ, the next stop on the DMC tour was Manchester hosted by Hiphoperation at the Music Box. Would the future UK champion be discovered here? It’s been twenty two years since Manchester produced its first UK/World champion Chad Jackson!
Following on from a very entertaining PA by Surreal Knowledge the fully charged Music Box crowd where spoiled with DMC goodies from a very articulate Inja, who promptly informs the Music Box audience of my 89’ World Finals victory some twenty years ago, so don’t I just feel the oldest DJ in the building now!? Lol.
Unlike the Plymouth heat the Manchester votes and results from the Three World Champions were unanimous. Here is my take on the top three placing djs of the night!
3rd Place went to an improved Special Guest, using customized records he rapidly chased between the beats of each record while adding fast back cueing and scratches in various parts of the mix. His set was very energetic using Drum & Bass and a Dubstep selection, so close attention had to be paid throughout.
2nd Place went to the 2006 UK Champion Asian Hawk, who during the afternoon session displayed a well controlled performance which left me looking forward to the rest of his 3 minutes offerings, but his evening performances didn’t evolve from his as there were mistakes and musically not enough variation which is such surprise as Asian Hawk has always shown individuality and creative strength which is why he got my vote to take the UK Champion 2006 title.
1st Place without a doubt goes unanimously to a constantly evolving Johnny 1 Move and without giving away to much info of the content used in this performance, Johnny’s set showed a dynamic arrangement and the musicality was a recognizable one, clever precise inserts of scratches and fast back cueing were placed in key points of the routine!
Johnny 1 move for UK champion! Well in all fairness I’ve yet to see the rest of the competition and we still have another 3 heats to go but I’ll boldly say with enough time to add further refinements to this performance a placement in the UK Final is very likely, damn if only getting those lotto numbers could be as easy to predict as this! Lol.
I conclude this review by talking about this year’s guest showcases, our new host Inja and Supremacy Champions DJ Switch and DJ Shiftee! This is a must see showcase that’s a perfect way to end a truly eventful DMC night. Plus I also get into the mix too, so what are you waiting for, we’ll see you at our Southampton heat on the 28th May, dare you miss this one?
