What’s The Best Night Out You’ve ever Had?
Rich: Probably the night before a gig at Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. We didn’t have to DJ so we could really enjoy ourselves and get involved with the festival and see the other bands. The festival is phenomenal. I had breakfast with Kings of Leon and rather embarrassingly I didn’t know who they were, I asked if they were roadies! I also managed to blag an extra 50 drinks vouchers and it was supposed to be only 5 per person and had great fun making fun of the Kaiser Chiefs and Lily Allen once there’s had ran out giving them the ‘we just got a better rider, were a bigger band’ treatment! Which was obviously a joke!
Jamie: It has to be Rich’s birthday party 2008 which we threw at my house and all our best mates were there and on top form, I think the best times are made by the company you keep!
What’s Your Favourite Club?
Rich: Back to Basics in our home city, Leeds. Were touring all year so when we play at home all our friends come down and we have a real get together and party. The club sound system is amazing as are the crowd, and the feeling of being able to jump a 10 minute taxi ride instead of an 8 hour plane ride is amazing!
What’s Your Favourite Record Of All-time?
Rich: Wow I hate this question! How can anyone possibly choose one?! Maybe The Cure – Friday I’m in Love. I always listen to that record on Friday’s, it never ceases to make me happy that it’s the weekend! Dance music wise I’d say Underworld – Born Slippy, it was one of the first tracks that really turned me on to electronica and I’ve never got bored of it. When we got the chance to remix for Underworld that was one of the happiest moments of my life!
Jamie: Of the kind of house & techno stuff we’re into the track would have to be Minologue – Elephants Parade, I am overawed by the twists and turns and groove that drops. My favorite non dance music track would have to be War – Low Rider, it just puts me in a good mood regardless of the situation. Debussy – Claire de Lune is my favorite classical track because I could always hear my dad playing it down stairs when I was trying to get to sleep on a school night and as I have the opportunity I would recommend Musical Globe – The Funkbrothas to the readers as a great feel good house track.
What Record Can’t You Stand?
Rich: Any cheesy chart euro pop trance crap. I just think it is derogatory to electronic music and although I don’t think this myself a lot of people might confuse it with credible electronic stuff and that makes me sad.
Jamie: Bass Hunter – Cant remember the name of the track. I had to text in the radio show I heard it on to give them some sh*t.
What Record Did You Lose Your Virginity Too?
Rich: Oh now we are getting a bit personal! Well I was 13 or 14 in a tent on a campsite with a 17 year old Dutch girl and I don’t think we had any music on at the time, my parents were in the tent next door and it was late! Although I have had sex more to Nightmares on Wax’s album Car Boot Soul than without it so that would definitely be my sexy time album!
Jamie: I was in my parents loft and shouldn’t have been so we had to be quiet and music wasn’t an option.
What Was The Last Record You Bought?
Rich: Not sure, we’re on Beatport for at least 6 hours every week and buy a lot of music! But maybe a track on Get Physical called March on Swan Lake.
Jamie: Marvin Gaye – Troubled Man
Name Three Of Your Biggest Influences…
Rich: Sasha. His 2005 Essential Mix for me is the greatest DJ mix of all time. He was one of the main people who inspired me to start DJing. Now were lucky enough to be with his management company and I got the chance to hang out with him at WMC last week which was a real pleasure.
Radiohead, who I’ve followed avidly for the last 15 years and they haven’t made one record I dislike – awe inspiring.
David Attenbrough. He makes the world and wildlife seem so amazing and I never tire of watching anything he narrates. I wish he’d do a bedtime story audio tape, that would be amazing!
Jamie: Emmerson, Lake and Palmer – specifically the album ‘The Barbarian’. They’re a progressive rock band that I grew up listening to.
The Prodigy were the band that got me into dance music.
Pink Floyd were and still are one of my all time favorite bands. Although apart from The Prodigy the influences seem strange, I know when I listen to them where little, key elements of our music come from.
Who Would Play You In ‘Audiojack’ The Movie’
Rich: No idea… hopefully someone like Rhys Ifans
Jamie: pfffft, a movie about me, nah.
What’s Your Dream?
Rich: I’m living it! But one of my main ambitions for the next few years if I’m lucky enough is to get my second house in Barcelona or Ibiza. If I’m really really lucky I’d also like to get a third house in San Francisco. Its my favorite US city and located really well so I could come ‘home’ during the week when were touring the States. We have a lot of friends there too and our US management company is based out of San Fran.
Jamie: I had a mental dream last night where I was being told by a very serious woman that unless I watered my almost dead plants that something terrible would happen.
How Do You Escape?
Rich: Usually through a window! Seriously though I don’t feel I need to escape, I love my job and my friends and family and meeting new people. Although I also love being at home by myself and smoking the night away. And eating cheese. I love cheese!
Jamie: I work in a supermarket on the checkout.
What Is Your Favourite Possession?
Rich: Probably my pc. I know that sounds geeky but I love the internet and music software and all erm… you-tube.
Jamie: My ipod (or any portable music device I’ve had previously). I go skitz if I don’t have music to listen to. My girlfriend nearly got a thick ear for picking up my headphones by mistake recently, ha ha.
What Is Your Life Philosophy?
Rich: I’m a strong believer in karma. Be good to people and they’ll be good to you. Don’t steal, don’t cheat and try to make the most of every opportunity that comes your way. And try to be positive!!
Jamie: In any bad situation there is someone worse off than you who is happy so cheer up you miserable bugger.
What’s In Your Pockets?
Rich: Well right now I’m on a plane from Miami to Los Angeles so just my passport, my boarding pass, my PSP and about $40!
Left front trouser pocket: House keys, chap stick, mag light, bottle opener, phone.
Right front trouser pocket: Coins
Right back trouser pocket: Wallet
Left back trouser pocket: Free for extras
Inside jacket pocket: ipod
Note: this never, ever changes so if I get robbed I know its some bugger who’s read this!
If You Were An Animal, What Animal and Why?
Rich: I’d be a bird so I could fly everywhere! But I’d retain a human brain so I could enjoy everything.
Jamie: I think I am a dog anyway so I’d be a human to try out the stuff you guys get up to.
You Are Having A Party, Whom Dead Or Alive Is On The Guest List?
Rich: This is my ultimate question, I’ve thought about it so many times! I’d have Jesus Christ, Derren Brown, Winston Churchill, Adolf Hitler, David Attenborough, Dali Lama, Stephen Fry and my late Grandad, who is my greatest inspiration. I’d make Jesus and Derren have a ‘trick off.’ I reckon Derren would kick his ass.
Jamie: Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, Bill Bailey and the Monty Python guys.
When Was The Last Time You Embarrassed Yourself?
Rich: Last night in Miami! I’m not elaborating further on that!
Jamie: Probably at the Worthy and Dax terrace party in Miami when I stopped the wrong record. Oops
Tell Us Something That We Don’t Know About Audiojack
Jamie: I can run up a wall and somersault back to my feet.
