Partner in crime with Deekline @ Great Pussy Records
So where did this Great Pussy journey begin…
“Well I met Deekline at a gig in Almaty, Kazakhstan, (no joke) in 2008. We had a mutual respect for each other’s productions. We got chatting and he suggested the idea of doing our own ghetto-house label. He had the idea to call it Giant Pussy Records and I managed to persuade the legendary Vince Ray to do the speed-shop artwork. Musically, the brief is to straddle the scenes that embraces Ghetto-House, Electro, Breaks and Dub-Step.”
How did the hook up with Fast Eddie come about?
“Deekline pointed out the genius of his ’88 Chicago Hip-House hit. So we sampled it up and welded it to the wobbliest bass-bin rattling b-line we could muster. Next, we got a heavy-weight Dub-Step remix from Crissy Criss. Eddie heard the mixes and loved them and it was then sanctioned as the official 2009 remix.”
So what is coming out of your Giant Pussy next?
“We’ve got all sorts ready to go – zeitgeisty house with influences from areas of Urban, Hip Hop, Hardcore…even 70s Prog Rock. We’ve got singles lined-up from Brazilian rising stars Felguk, mixes from Stupid Fresh and our new Brighton based signing Stripper with some incredible production. There are also breaks re-rubs of our releases from the likes of Krafty Kuts and Keith Mackenzie and we’ve also been working with Ghetto-tec don DJ Godfather and UK MCs Bubbz, African Boy and Bad Lay-dee.”
Sounds a right mash up. What producers have you got your eyes on at the moment?
“TAI – aka Hip Hop producer extraordinaire Tai Jason is carving it up right now. Finnish Maestro also and Tes La Rok has just turned in a monster Dub Step remix of our next release on Giant Pussy called’ Pocket Rocket’.”
Dub Step massive obviously huge at the moment – any involvement yourself?
“I just carved up Tomcraft’s melancholic hit ‘Loneliness’ with Tai at his stunning studio in Munich. Kosmo are going to put it out as part of the remix pack, when they re-release the track this Autumn.”
Big gigs this summer?
“Been doing a few festivals, ‘Fusion’ in Germany was a blast. ‘Peace & Love’ in Sweden was insane and ‘Fuji Rock’ in Japan was totally otherworldy. Deekline has also been blazing a trail across the US and Canada, but I can’t wait to get our Giant Pussy nights going in the UK, we’re tackling London and Brighton first.”
