The Cinematic Orchestra Present “In Motion” Live At The Camden Roundhouse
Jason Swinscoe and The Cinematic Orchestra return to the Roundhouse for a new night of audio-visual perfromance. The group have played all over London from Ronnie Scott’s to The Royal Albert Hall, but last year’s performance at the Camden venue of “The Man With A Movie Camera” is considered a highlight by aficionados. Since first performing the score back in 1999 the band have wanted to expand this show’s idea and so now present ‘In Motion’; the 1st of an on-going live event where a selection of films can be shown with newly created original scores. So on the 6th of November as well as performing the score to “The Man With Movie Camera” with the largest orchestra yet, they will also be performing two new pieces inspired by films of the same era;
“Entr’acte” René Clair’s Dada-influenced 20-minute short was originally made to fill an interval between two acts of Francis Picabia’s new ballet, Relâche, in Paris in 1924. The original music for the film was composed by the famous composer Erik Satie, who appears in the short movie alongside its originator, Francis Picabia and surrealist photographer Man Ray.
“Manhatta” (1921) is a short 11-minute documentary film made by painter Charles Sheeler and photographer Paul Strand. The film consists of 65 shots sequenced in a loose non-narrative structure, providing a view of the city that has been carefully arranged into an abstract composition.
To celebrate the band are proud to re-release the DVD of “The Man With A Movie Camera” (available for the first time in six years).
