Afterlife ‘On Being’ (SUBATOMIC)

Steve Miller aka Afterlife for me, is probably THE man when it comes to chilled out, sun drenched sounds that he has been delivering throughout all the years since his brilliant debut album “Simplicity 2000” in 1999. His new longplayer, which is out already while you read this, sees Miller growing as an artist once again. There is much more variety going on here than on his previous solo albums (check his other projects like Lux or The Normalites as well). Beside classic Afterlife Chill tracks like ‘Disparu’ or the superb WAR cover ‘The World Is A Ghetto’ you get some hints of Drum & Bass alongside more eclectic visionary attempts like the outstanding ‘On The Inside’ which features the legendary Coldcut boys. My personal picks must be ‘The Way To San Jose’ and ‘Fire & Jelly’, both blissful tracks that have written SUMMER all over them. In the end I still love the classic Afterlife sound most, these ten new tracks add some magic to an already impressive catalogue of relaxed music, that every lover of that genre should own.
