Techno has many different styles, but the original sounds was indeed to futurism, to sci fi visions and distant galaxies. Whilst Berlin and clubs like Berghain have to take it into a more concrete and subterranean place, it is always refreshing to hear producers still focus on looking forward and into the cosmos. That is the case with this new EP from Eddie Merced on GabCat.
Merced is a newly emerging producer with a great EP on Mixx earlier in the year and really impresses here. His three originals are all deep, spacious techno offerings that take you to another world. His kicks are rubbery and soft but driving, his synths are long tailed, lush and serene and there is plenty of Detroit soul in the sound waves. All of them are equally strong and range from driving late night efforts to acid laced and subliminal jams via spine tinglingly spaced out efforts that play out like a movie in your mind. A remix from Marco Cassanelli seals the package in style, and his dubbed out version layers in yet more electronic soul to great effect.
