COLOSSUS
WEST OAKTOWN
OM

Charlie Tate makes jazzy hip-hop; of that there can be no doubt. For those dumb enough to still be uncertain, Colossus rigidly works double bass and rippling keys combos, verbalised by Roots Manuva and a C-list US roll-call, to the point where yawns end up being stifled from the unrelenting, snoozing smokiness. Despite being set in its ways, it can’t be beaten for accompanying a night in with fat blunt rolled, and Tate, justifiably, is only playing to his strengths. The remix disc kicks backsides off the couch to show ‘Oaktown’ in a much more wide-awake light.
