Kool Keith pulls on his Dr Octagon mask for “Trees”, the second single from his “Return Of Dr Octagon” album, and it’s far from classic Octagon material. Positive environmental message aside, Keith sounds like he’s forgotten what his outer-worldly Dr Octagon icon was all about. Gone are the dark future-ghetto sounds of the earlier material, replaced by video game style p-funk from One Watt Sun (who?) that grates unhappily against the Octagon style. Spankrock injects a little dirt and lends Keith’s lyrics some of the dimension missing from the other mixes. Check before buying.
