HIP-HOP, RESUBMISSION SKILLZ
CONFESSIONS OF A GHOSTWRITER
ALL CITY

For hip-hop’s annual reviewer on wax and Shaq basher, immediate points deduction for trying to fob punters off by repackaging ‘I Ain’t Mad No More’. Anyhow, the shortfall in production (Neptunes, Hi-Tek, Nottz,
Timbaland) forces Skillz to try too hard; though he often lands his status shots, getting his punchlines to connect with the club hopscotching provided is the bigger problem.
A pair of family reach-outs (‘Imagine’ and ‘You Only Get One’) show him in a worthily honest light, and far and away the best cut is ‘Skillz v. Shaqwan’, where the Ghostwriter plays opposing beef-seekers.
