Brew’s ebb & flow of fluent constancy trickles a little of everything into a bristling cocktail, upholding the work ethic about focussing on the essentials and the less-is-more power balance, and coming up with more hits (hip-hop variables ‘Hit the Disco’, ‘Standsteppin’’, ‘Hopscotch’) than misses (the demo-button ‘The Latin Hustle’, some promising but incomplete ideas). Brew trusting his karmic side opens up new dimensions away from the boom-bap, doing his homework on the Rich Medina-narrated title track and ‘The Beachcomber’, and the ice-cold house ‘Mean Old Devil’ emerging as an unexpected treat.
