PHILL MOST THE SOULMAN
THE LO-FI THEORY EP
PUMA STRUT

There’s not too many people working in hip-hop who warrant the tag ‘legend’, but Philadelphia’s Phill Most (aka Soulman) has definitely earned his dues, all the way back to his 1988 golden era classic “On Tempo Jack” through to the digging stories, DJ mixtapes and hip-hop journalism he’s probably best known for today.  This EP is a bit special in that the rhymes and the beats were recorded with a gap of ten years between them.  Having found an old tape with some unused beats on it, he decided to add some new rhymes, resulting in this EP of old yet new sounding jams. “Walking Papers” is the straight-up party anthem, dissing lesser MCs over a funky break, whilst “Oh Sh!t!” goes for a dramatic vibe (great lyrics about Paris Hilton), leaving “Play It Cool” & “The Real Thing” to bring up the rear.  Even after all this time, the guy still cuts it like no-one else around – a true master, you really do not want to miss out on this. Essential.
