Yes Strange Fruit Project have got stuck in the late eighties/early nineties, at a time when hip-hop could still be fun and rock the joint (Native Tongues, Def Jam). Although these unlikely candidates hail from Waco, Texas, the mood is totally right and the production spot on. ‘Soul Clap’ recalls 3rd Bass at its best whilst ‘Special’ goes for old-school soul.
