Not content with the stunning return of the Lindstrom-Thomas duo taking the cosmic disco sound they shaped onto its next phase, the real Prins has turned in one of the year’s best mix albums, inspired and aimed at Offenbach’s wonderfully-named Robert Johnson club [named after the immortal blues guitar giant who helped change history in the late 20s, in case you’re wondering]. It’s seamless and intoxicating but the selection is diverse as you like, including the expected space disco delights by names like Bjorn Torske, Arpadys, spectacular Low Motion Disco and the sublimely-Moroderesque Cage & Aviary but also classics like Martin Circus’ ‘Disco Circus’ and oddities like Map Of Africa’s 80s-bellowing ‘Wyatt Urp’. Two of many personal highlights are the 303-fest of Acid test’s ‘Test 1’ and the mighty Rub N Tug wreaking havoc with Capracara, whose ‘Opal Rush’ put Soul Jazz on the modern dance map. Ultimately the 27 components are all immaculately fitting and woven into one huge, swirling hallucinogenic mirror ball whose beams again point to new galaxies for the most infinite and consistently-exciting musical strain percolating in dance music’s loins at the moment. Here is paradise.
