Respected DJ-producer Alex celebrates his label hitting double figures by uncurling a sublime exercise in house heaven. The lushly-ethereal ‘Humid’ kicks it off, spiced with bongo action sparse riffs and overall haunting flavour. The title cut recalls classic New York deep house of a Nu Groove persuasion laced with ringing melodies and modern minimal touches. Poker Flat’s Dan Berkson takes this track and turns it into a glorious epic, apty titled the Effortless Mix which sees subtle Detroit elements woven in as it gradually builds. Finally, the crawling, atmospheric ‘Who’s Afraid Of Detroit’ samples Claude Stroke’s hook for the title [the man sufficiently impressed to give his blessing] rounding off a fabulous EP.
