You can practically feel this record crackling thanks to the huge buzz it’s generating. Yes, this is the one with the Moodyman remix, which may be one reason why it’s causing a such a stir. The real reason, though, is Alif Tree’s inspired weaving of an old Shirley Horn jazz classic into a modern jam, fusing organic samples with newer production values and creating a deep, epic song in the process. It’s like a restrained riot on vinyl. No small wonder that Moodyman should agree to lending a remix, teasing out the aura of the original for a fantastic Detroit 21st disco jam. And that’s just the A side. Flip it and we have another, rougher mix from Tree, and another perpsective from South Africa’s Felix Laband. Most importantly, it’s got what every huge tune should have – the balls to rock the floor, no problem.
