New talent alert ! DFTD present ANOTR – unknown hesheit producer from whoknowswhere – with a banging three track EP that signals great things for the future. ‘Strobe’ is a four to the floor, gut-punching bouncer that channels Tee’s Freeze era Todd Terry, MK, the Basement Boys and the sort of screaming, fx-ed Diva vocal sample and jabbing dissonant piano chords that tore early Tribal UK and Slip N Slide releases from limb to limb. ‘Passin Me By’ takes the Pharcyde (or Quincy Jones) to the darkside, mulching hollow cardboard carton percussion with the shouted ‘she keeps on passing me by’ vocal loops and a curious synth loop. ‘Stop The Music’ is a relentless, big-fish-little-fish jacking groove with puddle splashing snares, wonky and weird zipped synth effects and a psychotic ‘stop the music’ chant. Whoever this producer is has an extensive vinyl collection or just a really good memory. One to watch or to remember to watch again …
