Here’s another fine example as to why the uber cool New York nightclub is regularly voted as one of the hottest places on the planet. With a diverse DJ guest list – from the superstar status to the hottest new kids on the block – the one constant in the club’s schedule are residents Nicolas Matar and Willie Graff. Each week they paint a vivid landscape of eclectic and sensuous sounds that meld euphoric soulful house with spiritually minded cosmic jazz-fusion, organic Balearic grooves, supple electronic textures and percussive Afro-Latin rhythms. CD 1 is tagged ‘classic’ and features edgy deep house grooves with the odd hint of afro-beat and oozes elegance and panache – typified by the sublime ‘Someday’ by Rocco and James Priestley & Dan Berkson remix of Robert Owens’ ‘Happy’. The second, ‘nu classic’, goes even deeper with an epic journey of tech-edged, soul-kissed and driving beats. Kenny Larkin, Jimpster and Manuel Tur are all represented, while pride of place goes to Henrik Schwarz’s celestial voyage on Ane Brun’s ‘Headphone Silence’ – an outstanding eclectic mix of mesmerising deep vibes truly representative of an excellent collection.
