Shaheer Williams imprint has been releasing a number of gems this past while but this really is the icing on the cake. Blue Note’s Kurt Elling gives his all with a bluesy vocal performance that captures your attention immediately, with some outstanding refrains along the way, while the driving, jazzy backing provides the perfect backdrop. Just check the groove in the outro for a lesson in smoky cool. ‘One Day’ is an undeniably distinctive sounding track that stands out from the crowd and as such, at the very least, merits your attention.
