Lost My Dog

Canadian Kenny’s Taste For The Low Life is one of the stunning debut albums of the year, a dense onslaught of invention and exploding emotional power. Two highlights have now been plucked out for the remix treatment and, with this cast over two volumes, it’s the expected killer package. First, Mike Shannon takes the synth riffs of ‘System Overload’ and, with the aid of pumping bass and alien textures, enters similar realms to recent Slam missives: controlled dynamite. Same track gets given a swirling, NY-flavoured house treatment by Nitin [about to release his own ‘Nervosa’ EP]. Next up is ‘Logan’s Run’. First given a deeply-resonant dubbed-out tech-house makeover by the mighty Bearweasel with rumbling Basic Channel chords and fish-in-the-face clap action. Possibly the standout here with its unabashed deepness. The track also gets a haunting mix from Carlo Lio, whipping up a ‘Riders On The Storm’-type atmosphere with its rolling bass and ethereal melodies. Kenny Glasgow: one of the major talents to emerge in 2009, now bless ed with stellar supporting cast.
