BRETT JOHNSON & DJ HEATHER
EVERYTHING’S ELECTRIC [MIKE SHANNON MIXES]
20:20 VISION

At last another instalment in Juno’s celebration of its own tenth anniversary with great tunes from dance music’s history. Imagination cut through early 80s UK chart naffness to provide glamour and unashamed hedonism, major fan Larry Levan regularly using them to slaughter the Paradise Garage. Their baco-foil glam look was sometimes fairly ridiculous but their tunes grabbed with a sultry, proto-house impact descended from New York’s electro-boogie steam-rooms and Sylvester’s rampant celebrations. Who better to remix than Lindstrom, the prince of space disco? He actually remains pretty faithful to the original, offering a tasteful homage on the vocal version before letting fly on the dub. Levan fave ‘Burnin’ Up’ gets a riotous rework from Dmitri From Paris, who thrusts forth the piano riff on the, again, respectful Re-stretch before taking it to the outer limits of dancefloor devastation on the Red Bus Re-rub. Two 12s deal with each while both are on the same CD. What a treat!
