From funk in the ’70s to soul-weekender anthems in the ’80s, Bill Curtis has been the ever-present ringmaster responsible for an incredible 35 Fatback Band album in as many years. Today their sound is a lot more refined with the male vocal dominance shared with Isabelle Gordon. Her seductive performance on the hook-laden ‘Feel the Fire’ is offered in a variety of mixes from Cookie Monsters, Charles Spencer, Bah Samba and DJ Meme, with the latter delivering the definitive version riding some brass stabs lifted from France Joli’s ‘Gonna Get Over You’.
