The gentle giant from Cleveland, Ohio is one of the nicest men in house
music I’ve had the pleasure to meet, and his epochal record, ‘Someday’, is
still generally regarded as a benchmark in the house movement. Almost
20-years after selling 100,000+ copies as a US import, the near-hypnotic
bassline-driven anthem returns under the expert retooling of Marshall
Jefferson in his Godfather Of House 2007 Remix. With beats subtle enough to
match Ce Ce Rogers astute vocal, this hybrid of US house and rattling
retro-funk is, as you’d expect, a real attention grabber and has loads of
subtle qualities shuffling hats, a chunky kick drum, organ pads aplenty
and a velvet vocal to match the tight ‘n’ sophisticated timeless
reproduction.
