When others are happy to stick to the if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it formula of dance, Cicada are one of the few acts evolving and fine-tuning their sound to match the ever-changing musical arena we live in. ‘One Beat Away’ is no carbon copy of what’s gone before, instead this shrewdly constructed 80’s new wave dancer burbles away with a modern electronica feel that steers clear of the monotones likes of Deadmau5, Pryda et al, instead adding warmth, richness and soul courtesy Heidrun Björnsdottir seductive vocals. The restyling by Arno Cost (the remixer du jour behind last week’s Single of the Week from Thomas Bangalter & DJ Falcon) is even more essential as the Frenchman’s subtle touches perfectly compliment the songs rich intensity.
