Claudia Lovisa – Sent to Somewhere EP – (Mental Genius)

Claudia Lovisa might not be a household now right now, but much of the beauty of house music undoubtedly lies in the fact that if you’re accomplished enough and have the skills to pay the bills, then you can most definitely make headway. And on the basis of this release for the fledgling Mental Genius label, it certainly appears as if the South African producer has a few tricks up her sleeve.

Entitled the Sent to Somewhere EP, this 3-tracker is one that emphasises the sensuous and sultry side to the producer’s work’s. This is showcased early on, particularly on the dizzying track that is ‘Smoke’. Eerily hypnotic and full of vigour, it sets its stall out in a manner that suggests this EP is going to really be one for the heads.

The rest of the EP is no less great, and the next track is ‘Our Groove’, remixed by label head Dave Lubin alongside Tom Crane. Druggy and captivating, their take on the track is one that uses but a few parts with real panache, stylishly creating a great track out of them. Lastly, there’s another remix of ‘Our Groove’, this time between Lubin and Lovisa. This one is in stark contrast to what’s arrived beforehand, and is my pick of the bunch thanks to its hands in the air vibe. Sure to be a winner in the likes of DC10, if ever there was a track for the big moment, then this is surely it.
