Dublin’s Nice & Nasty is now undoubtedly one of the world’s foremost techno labels in the traditional sense descended from Detroit and similar to Glasgow’s Soma in terms of passion and relentless quality. This new EP from Rob Glennon, who lets some stellar remixers loose on his tackle, is jawdropping in its depth, power and sonic foraging. ‘Bass Shifter’ gets two mixes – first Orlando Voorn setting up a dense bass-funk juggernaut [somewhat recalling Carl Craig’s ‘The Floor’ but that could be just me] doused in looped sax, voices and alien melodies which swell into Red Planet-style majesty. Paul Mac takes a more low-slung approach with acidic cod-piece percolation – one for the early hours. The Parallel mix of ‘Ratio’ is likewise stunning lobbing huge slabs of deep space chordage into the cavernous throb [The bottomless original is also here]. Pure techno heaven in its most glorious form.
