Hot on the heels of their acclaimed Reelaux and Rafa Rubio releases Steal My Oil makes it three outta three with this sublime EP from France’s Yann Cortella. The Parisian has been involved in music ever since he can remember and over the years has worked with a handful of big named Gallic stars including Brigitte Fontaine, Indochine and Jacques Higelin. Now paired with songstress Floo, the two have created a beautifully constructed package of Balearic-kissed beats, rolling dance grooves and subtle nuances that sound more delicious with each successive play. The Original version of ‘Choose Your Boy’ is a seductive melancholic ode of lush midtempo beats overlaid with graceful strummed guitar and washes of synthetic strings, in what almost sounds like the cinematic opening theme to a French movie about doomed lovers; Elliot Sivad adding a tougher house backbeat to his remix. ‘U&I’ is an altogether rockier dance offering throwing back to the ’80s underground, while the ‘My Brother & Me’ is that oh-so-familiar French fried funk sound that we’ve all become accustomed too.
