Ever since the Lower East label burst on to the scene a few years, it’s been renowned for its high-class house music. Very much a contemporary imprint, there’s nonetheless a rough and rugged agenda which courses through their releases. In that essence, the latest such offering by label head Cozzy D is a fine example of where they’re at right now. Entitled the Anxiety EP, this one moves and saunters with a real purpose, with the title track enveloping the listener in a murky world of muddy tech-house and banging synths. A real rough, raw and rugged effort, it quite brilliantly sets the stall for what’s to come. Next up we have the sounds of Volkoder’s remix. His take on the track is even more nagging than what’s come before and features a drop and a baseline that’ll make even the most ardent house head shiver in their boots. The EP’s second half gets underway with the appropriately named ’Shake That Acid’. Groove-soaked and with a mesmeric smidgen of vocals, it’s another potent party-starter on an EP that’s full of similarly inclined hues. Lastly we have ‘Dub Fantasy’, a melodic and futuristic-leaning track that again sees Cozzy pull out all the stops. Subtle it ain’t, but this one most definitely is effective.
