Cristoph ‘Let It Go’ (Knee Deep in Sound)

Watching the evolution of Cristoph as a producer has been a beautiful thing. Having started out knocking out funk heavy on trend house grooves he’s quickly begun exploring sounds and textures all the more of his own, the last year or so seeing the emergence of a techno master. It’s a similar path trodden by arena rave badman Hot Since 82, so it’s no surprise to see the two northern chaps come together via the former releasing on the latter’s Deep in Sound label.

This is proper moody straight laced techno shiznit, the kind of well produced atmospheric tackle that makes expert use of synths and is awash with melody. It’s a sound that is equal parts tech house, nouveau prog and main room techno, with echoes of the classic work of Smith & Selway and Agoria over the two tracks ‘Let it Go’ and ‘Transmittance’.

Obviously that’s led to a remix from an absolute tyro of that sound in Oxia, who gifts ‘Transmittance’ a real classy work out that you know will just sound immense on a huge system. Riva Starr’s immediacy and Exacta’s trippy vibes are of less appeal to these ears, but there sure to find favour elsewhere. The real story though here is the consistent progress of a man destined for the big time.
