Initially released back in 2005, “Rome Departure” was a sizeable hit by house music CD standards, securing places in many end-of-year “Best Of” charts and earning DJ MFR plenty of new fans. Now it’s back, refreshed, and packed with new remixes from artists like Charles Webster, Vincent Kwok, Jay-J, Haldo and DJ MFR himself. Some artist albums in dance music end up suffering from an identity crisis, sounding like the collection of singles they really are; however where “Rome Departure” succeeded was that it felt like an individual artist album with a common theme, and these remixes, whilst giving it a newer deep house twist, also to underline that fact further. Hard to pick a standout – deep, head-nodding grooves, soulful piano led classics, dubbed out basslines – it’s all in there. Quality gear.
