As they celebrate their tenth anniversary, Sonar Kollektiv could hardly ask for a better summation of what they’re all about than this superb collection from Jazzanova and Dirk Rumpff, mixed by the latter. What makes it all the more special is its exclusivity, as nearly all these tracks were written specifically to be used on this mix. After the dreamy State River Widening track ‘Cottonwood’, soulful vibes take over with Season and Soultourist, before the rolling beats of Outlines’ ‘How It Should Be Done’, and the tense breakbeat of Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek’s ‘Turn It On’, a moody track that makes an immediate impression. The Broadcast takes a nocturnal move after this, a real ‘after hours’ feel to the warm vocal of Paul Randolph on Zoetic’s ‘My Magic’, and a deep down beat approach from Fat Freddys Drop on ‘Del Fuego’ bringing the music round full circle. A superb compilation to return to again and again – happy birthday to the Berlin label.
