Donato Dozzy – Cassandra – (Claque Musique)

When it comes to crafting electronic music with serious texture, heart and colour, few of those in the contemporary domain can possibly match Donato Dozzy. The Italian has been crafting said soundscapes for years now, and his latest is enough triumph in that regard, as this time about he takes the reigns for Carola Pisaturo’s fledgling Claque Musique imprint. After a recent stunning recent release by Pisaturo and Nick Anthony Simoncino, it’s increasingly clear that Claque is a label going places in a hurry. On Dozzy’s Cassandra EP then, it’s ‘’Cassandra’’ itself that gets us underway. A really sprightly and intricate affair, it’s full of groove but also deep and haunting in a way that all the best such house music often is. On the flip side we have ‘’AA’’, which is little more than an esoteric DJ tool. Even so, Dozzy’s often oddball approach has worked wonders in the past, and while ‘’AA’’ is unlikely to sit among his most treasured musical achievements, it is at least an example of a producer keen to leave his mark on his own terms. Which, really, is something Donato Dozzy has never been afraid of.
