Chances are that if you like star-gazing, quality enriched house and techno, then you’re going to be absolutely fawning over this one. It comes from fledgling Italian duo EDNIC, and comes to light on the similarly emerging Puas Puas imprint, a label that – on initial inspection at least – seems determined to strike out away from the crowd thanks to a sound that’s uncompromising but also thoroughly engaging and carefully crafted. The Auberste EP is a great introduction to the guys’ talents in that regard. Full of stuffy, hazy sound, it drags the listener on a journey that’s filled with sci-fi tinged tidbits and features various wonderful twists and unlikely turns. The original is arguably the package’s most obvious indication of said elements, but it’s a way of working that’s also apparent on the remix front, both of which arrive from Claque Musique boss, Carola Pisaturo. The first of Pisaturo’s remixes is her so-called Church mix, and one that’s full of stirring, ominous vibes and a bassline that’ll slay any floor. Thanks to her work at Claque Music (where she recently released alongside the always brilliant Nick Anthony Simoncino), Pisaturo has already given us reason to pick her out as one to watch this year, while this remix only reminds us just why that’s the fact. Closing off we have the Botta mix, which explodes almost out of nowhere into a rich voyage of colour. A fine tapestry of clued-in sounds, there’s not a boring blot on this EP.
